Day 1 - Lands End to St Austell

The first day is complete!

And what a day it's been. The hottest day of the year was forecast and it didn't disappoint, it was just too hot to cycle in any good way. We did prepare by setting out from the hotel at 6am just in time for the nearby McD to open. Getting to Lands end for 7am meant we were the first to the carpark ahead of all the other end to enders.
That's it! The end. Or start in our case. From left to right, Peter, Steve and Holly.
Loading up the car at 6am.

For those who have been following our progress you will notice that the map above is not the route we took. We decided to change in favour of a more scenic and less busy route making use of the King Harry Ferry.

The start did not change with a long slow drive to the start ready for the day. After getting a photo at the signpost we loaded up and set off into the morning sun. It was a fantastic morning with very few cars and excellent weather. I must admit that the drive to the start was making me have second thoughts. It's a very long way!

15 mins into the trip and we were making good progress and started to relax into the ride. Penzance was next and we found ourselves being the typical tourist with pictures here and there. This did add to the journey time but was a must do thing.

The only part of the trip we would rather forget is the last 17 miles. Endless hills combined with very high heat is not a good combination. Tomorrow is more of the same as we head for Exeter.

Until then, I need my beauty sleep.
