I'm sure we all have one of these, an old bike at the back of the shed. For me, the old bike was a close companion, a transportation device, an adventure creator, a teacher of the possible and critic of the impossible. Yet, here it is at the back of the shed. What happened?
Hmm. Leaving home. Getting a drivers license. College. Marriage. Starting a family. Work. Getting older?
Like many people, we grow out of things and into new things. And my Raleigh Equipe is no exception. And even worse was to come. I bought a new bike in the meantime in the form of a mountain bike! BUT I didn't get rid of the old one. I kept it, moved it from home to home while at college. It sat in sheds, outside, inside, in the garage, and now the shed. The last time I went for a ride on it must be 20 years ago! Shameful.
And now, a time has come in my life when I feel I need to get back on my bike. I've registered to do the London to Brighton bike ride. And why? Well, because I want to complete one of my life long ambitions of doing the End to End. That's Lands End to John O'Groats in case you didn't know. I thought something a little more local would be a good start to getting back in the saddle.
So, this blog is intended to track the revival of an old friend. Who knows what I will discover along the way. Perhaps I'm chasing memories. I hope for far more.
